A fantastic bike tour though the idyllic, wine-making regions of Basque Country, La Rioja and Ribera del Duero in northern Spain.
Experience a sublime cycling journey through rolling hills and medieval hilltop towns whilst sampling the best food and wines these regions have to offer. At Bike Spain Tours we offer a unique opportunity for you to see a tranquil and traditional side of Spain that most visitors do not see.
We start in one of Spain´s most notable wine-making regions, La Rioja, and bike through the dramatic valley of the Ebro river surrounded by rolling hills and sweeping vineyards. Staying in some of the top hotels in the region, we sample the best of La Rioja wine combined with exquisite, gourmet food.
Moving south towards Madrid into the Duero valley we visit some of Spain’s most picturesque medieval towns whilst savouring the tastes of the more dramatic reds of Ribera del Duero. The climb to the stunning walled town of Pedraza is one you won’t forget as well as the ride to Segovia passing under its ancient Roman aqueduct. This will truly be a memorable biking and wine journey!
Day 1: Bilbao – 2nd of July
Accommodation: Hotel Gran Domine Bilbao
Today you will arrive to Bilbao on your own.
Bilbao is a city with so many things to offer besides the famous Guggenheim museum, top quality food and wine, a historic old town that you can explore on foot, and a great rough urban vibe.
Dinner at your own in Bilbao. You have many options to have dinner in the centre of Bilbao with pintxos and wine.
Day 2: La Rioja – 3rd of July
Accommodation: Hotel Marques de Riscal
After meeting in Bilbao this morning we transfer by van south of the city into the heart of the Rioja wine region. Following a quick bike ride to get used to your new wheels, we will stop for lunch in a winery before continuing on our journey through this picturesque landscape surrounded by sprawling vineyards and medieval hill top towns.
Today will be in the most known wineries in Rioja Alta and we will stop in the location of Haro.
You will have free evening in the spa in Marques de Riscal
Tonight you will stay in the ultra-modern and stylish Marques de Riscal hotel, in the charming town of Elciego.

Day 3: La Rioja – 4th July
Accommodation: Hotel Marques de Riscal
Today our bike ride takes us on a tour of the area’s numerous wineries with plenty of opportunity to sample the local reds that this area is so renowned for. We will pass through the towns of Briones, Labastida and Haro with some occasional climbs and glorious downhills.

After lunch at 16:30pm we have other visit to Marques de Riscal winery in your hotel location.
After the visit you have the SPA in the hotel.
At night you can eat in the town of Laguardia while visiting the castle town.
Day 4: Ribera del Duero – 5th July
Accommodation: Castilla Termal Monasterio de Valbuena
After breakfast in the hotel you will have a van transfer passing through Burgos where we can see the Cathedral and we can stop in Portia´s winery.
After the visit we will pass through differents villages from Ribera: Quintana de Pidio, Roa and finalizing in Pesquera de Duero before go to the hotel for tonight Castilla Termal.
You have Spa in the hotel as well and you can enjoy it a free evening in the hotel before the dinner on your own.
Day 5: Ribera del Duero – 6th July
Accommodation: Castilla Termal Monasterio de Valbuena
Today will have a bike loop ans we will start visiting Peñafiel and its castle.
Loop in Ribera where we will eat during the way, we will come bact to Peñafiel and transfer to the hotel by van.
We can relax in the Spa after the bike rides and before the dinner time.
The dinner tonight you can choose a local restaurant or if you prefer a nice hotel we can book it in advance for you.
Day 6: Madrid (departure)
It´s time to say goodbye after an exciting trip, whose memories will accompany us on our journey home and hopefully encourage us to return to Spain again in the future!
Your Bike Spain guides will transfer you to Madrid airport for your onward journey. If you would like to extend your stay to include some extra nights in the region, we will be more than happy to arrange this for you!
Gran Hotel Domaine Bilbao
The Gran Hotel Domine Bilbao is a design hotel representing the height of luxury.

Castilla Termal Monasterio de Valbuena
Located in the heart of the Ribera del Duero, this hotel is located in one of the best preserved Cistercian monasteries in Europe. Its building dates back to the 12th century.
The Monasterio de Santa María de Valbuena has 79 superior rooms, spa and spa center. It also has an outdoor swimming pool, terrace, children’s playground and restaurant.
