Beginning in Malaga, we´ll head to Almería. In Almería we’ll have the opportunity to be right next to the Mediterranean. We’ll also catch a mountainous stage of the tour with incredible views. On race rest day we will be able to pedal with the pro cyclists and visit some of your favorite teams to talk about the race. Then we’ll complete a coastal route in Malaga and head through the Subbética mountains towards Jaén and Córdoba. Along the way we’ll discover the fascinating mix of cultures in this region formerly known as “Al-Ándalus” by the Arab caliphs, who ruled the area for 700 years until 1492. During our cycling route we’ll ride past immense olive groves and vineyards. We’ll get to visit some of the most famous Andalusian “white villages” and have the chance to taste the classic Andalusian gazpacho and sweet Jerez.

Day 1: Saturday, August 21. Malaga
Meet with Bike Spain Tours guides at your hotel at 10am to leave for Almería (2 hours). You must arrive in Malaga the day before, and stay in the many hotels available. We can help organize the extra night, just mention it to us. Once we make it to Almería, we’ll check-in at the hotel, take some time to settle in and rest. In the afternoon we’ll adjust the bikes and pedal along the beautiful coast better known as “Costa de Almería”.
Malaga, with its status as the capital of the Costa del Sol, its mild climate and beaches, is one of the most important tourist destinations in Spain. But it is also one of the oldest cities in the world, with more than 2000 years of history and the influence of all the civilizations that settled there such as the Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans etc.
Dinner is included and it will be a good time to meet the rest of the group and the guides who will accompany us during this week of cycling at La Vuelta.

Day 2: Sunday, August 22. Almeria
In the morning, we’ll leave the hotel on our bikes and ride through the Tabernas Desert, climbing at our own pace. We can stop for lunch in mini-Hollywood, the town known as the American West or Far West where so many “Spaghetti western” movies have been shot. After, we’ll begin a climb of 40 km and 1500 meters gradient to Velefique. Very long climb, but only the last 10 kms are the most difficult. It will be a tough end of the stage in the race and we will be able to see which teams and riders want to win the Tour of Spain
After watching the stage in the VIP area, you can ride the descent or return to the hotel by van.
Day 3: Monday, August 23. Almeria
Today is a rest day for the pro cyclists. We’ll go and meet your favorite teams that will be staying close to our hotel. We’ll take a short bike ride with them until lunchtime, and then they’ll return to do a press conference. After eating on the beach, we can pedal a little longer by the sea or take a dip and rest in the afternoon. The coast of Almería has an ideal climate. It’s always sunny and not too hot, thanks to the constant sea breeze.
Dinner again at the hotel and possibility of SPA and massage.

Day 4: Tuesday, August 24. Granada
After breakfast, we´ll take an hour van transfer to Almuñecar, a coastal town, to pedal the last 80 kms of today’s stage. It’s a route along a good road, with views of the sea until we get to Velez Malaga where we head inland, and climb to the top of Almarcha +600 meters, Category 2 climb. We’ll appreciate the ride downhill towards the sea and then finish in Rincón Victoria. We’ll have time for lunch, swimming and watching the end of today’s stage in the VIP area.
After the stage, we’ll go to our next hotel, La Bobadilla ***** also called A Royal Hideaway Hotel. It has been recognized as one of the best hotels in Spain and every year the media finds new reasons to declare it one of the most special places to stay in Europe. This is the reason why this afternoon, it is best to relax, connect with your surroundings and enjoy the luxury hotel.
Dinner is not included, but we recommend dinner at the hotel.
Day 5: Wednesday, August 25. Jaen
After breakfast, we´ll have two options for our bike ride. We can either ride 112km to the finish line or we can shorten the ride to 75 kms with +1700 meters of elevation gain. According to your physical conditions and the climate, you decide. We’ll pass through Priego de Córdoba, where it’s worth stopping at the 100 spouts fountain and seeing its Arab quarter and castle. We’ll continue towards Alcalá la Real and the castle of La Mota, an impressive fortress, decisive in the battle of Granada and conquered from the Arabs in 1340. We’ll continue through Locubin towards Valdepeñas, a town that has already been the final 3 times of the Tour of Spain on Chaparral street with one kilometer at 10%. After the stage in the VIP area we’ll go to Jaén (30 min) to the Parador in the Santa Lucía castle.
Tonight we’ll have a group dinner in the castle restaurant.
Day 6: Thursday, August 2. Malaga
This morning, we have a short van transfer to Luque, where we’ll take a beautiful route through the subbética mountain range until we reach the Montilla wine region. We’ll visit an olive oil mill and winery and then travel by van to Córdoba, one of the most beautiful places in Spain. The millenary city designated as a World Heritage Site represents a living legacy of the different cultures that settled here throughout its history.
Once the professionals cross the finish line, we’ll take the van to Malaga 1h, where we have a hotel for 2 nights by the sea.
Day 7: Friday, August 27. Free Day
This morning, we can take a short route either flat or uphill (TBD). You’ll have a free afternoon to visit the city of Malaga and visit many museums. http://www.malagaturismo.com/en
Tonight, you will have dinner on your own. The guides will return to Madrid in the afternoon as the third week of La Vuelta in northern Spain awaits them!
Day 8: Saturday, August 28
The airport is very close. This is the last day of the trip, we hope you’ve enjoyed it!
