Explore the southern Spain’s top wines regions of Montilla, Ronda and Jerez by bike on an exciting journey through Andalusia.

On this guided bicycle tour you will pass through stunning vineyards and landscapes along the coast and in the mountains. The route covers the best vineyards in Andalusia, in the south of Spain, allowing you to discover it’s fascinating history. Come along on a journey to the Arab and Jewish neighborhoods of Córdoba, the white villages and the Andalusian culture including flamenco! Olé!

This bicycle tour covers the Andalusian wine regions, surrounded by mountains, beaches, flamenco, bulls and horses. Southern Europe meets the Mediterranean and the Atlantic in an abundantly rich cultural melting pot. The trip ends in Jerez, where you could either travel to Tarifa to cross into Morocco or on to Seville and Granada to continue your trip in Andalusia.

During our biking journey we stay in outstanding accommodation – four and five-star hotels in the bigger cities and smaller, charming hotels in picturesque Andalusian villages – and we sample the finest of traditional Andalusian cuisine with excellent wines.

Our Bike Spain Tours minibus will transport you for half of the journey to arrive at the starting points of each one of the biking stages. We’ll ride the most interesting parts of our journey and for those looking forward to a bit more of a challenge, each day’s stages may be lengthened or shortened (depending on the group’s bicycling skills).

  • Discover one of Spain’s well-known wine regions: Andalusia
  • Stay in rural estates and bodegas, tucked away in the scenic Spanish countryside
  • Find out all you’ve ever wanted to know about wine and sherry preparation
  • Take a well-deserved break on the beach after cycling through Jerez’ vineyards
  • Traditional Andalusian nights of flamenco music and sangria

Day 1: Córdoba
Accommodation: Casas de la Juderia

In the morning you will meet your guide at your hotel. We will leave Madrid early in the morning to travel south from the city, making a stop along the way in the land of Don Quijote, La Mancha, to see the ancient windmills made famous by the novel. Alternately, if you would like to explore the quaint streets of Cordoba by day, you have the option to catch the fast train from Madrid in the morning and we will meet you in Cordoba in the evening. That night, we’ll immerse ourselves in Spanish culture with a tapas dinner.

Ten centuries ago, Cordoba was one of the greatest cities in the world and the capital of Muslim Spain. Today Cordoba is well-known for its mosque, the famous Mezquita that we will visit on arrival, and also for many other artistic and architectural treasures. The old Arab and Jewish quarters with their narrow streets offer the visitor a unique experience.

Day 2: Loja
Route: 52.4 km
Elevation: +725 m / -618 m
Accommodation: Bobadilla, a royal hideaway

After breakfast this morning we will transfer by van out of Cordoba to make our way south towards the natural park of the Sierra Subbetica Mountains (45 minutes). This first biking route will make you discover the vineyards of the area to finally arrive to a traditional, family-run country estate in Montilla that has been making wine and olive-oil for many generations. After learning some of the secrets of their trade, we will share a really private lunch in their property with excellent wines. We will then take the van to our next hotel, a beautiful property set in an impressive rural location where you will enjoy fantastic views and a nice pool. Arab baths and massages are also available.

For the most courageous ones, an extra ride of 15 kms is available this afternoon.

Tonight, we will enjoy dinner in the excellent hotel’s restaurant.

Day 3: Ronda
Route: 57.0 km
Elevation: +1042 m / -1204 m
Accommodation: Hotel Reina Victoria

The natural park of the Sierra Subbetica mountain range is home to some of the most beautiful landscape in Andalusia, and we’ll get to see some of it today as we ride to Luque, famous for the imposing ruins of its Moorish castle and to Priego de Cordoba, known for its 17th and 18th century palaces, where we will stop to visit and enjoy the small flowery streets. Today is about enjoying the olive trees and the quiet roads that curve through the mountains as we bike south towards the valley of the river Genil. We will finish our trip in the pleasant town of Iznájar, next to the lake, where we will have lunch.

After lunch, we go by van to the millenary and unique city of Ronda, located in a basin surrounded by mountains and one of the white villages par excellence. We will lodge in a magical place in search of the mountains and we will have dinner in the city.

Day 4: Ronda
Route: 37.2 km
Elevation: +730 m / -639 m
Accommodation: Reina Victoria

After breakfast, we leave the hotel for a spectacular route through the vineyards and olive groves. We will stop at the small town of Setenil de las Bodegas, one of the white villages, famous for its picturesque urban layout, declared Historic Site, whose center is embedded in the pit formed by the Guadalporcún River as it passes through the city.

Our route will end in a winery in the Sierra de Ronda where we will enjoy a visit and tasting some exquisite wines before lunch. The return to the hotel will be done by van although you can also return by bike for those who want to add a few extra kilometers to the route today!

We stay for the second night in this marvelous hotel with stunning views of Ronda’s famous sweeping gorge and tonight you have the opportunity to explore this lively town and eat in one of its many tapas bars on your own.

Day 5: Jerez de la Frontera
Route: 42.4 km
Elevation: +658 m / -1030 m
Accommodation: Villa Jerez

We start cycling from the hotel with spectacular views of the mountains on the descent towards the natural park of Grazalema. Crossing this beautiful area of cork tree forests we continue towards the town of Zahara overlooking the impressive resevoir of Zahara.

After lunch we’ll transfer you to your hotel in Jerez de la Frontera, considered to be one of the most important coastal towns, right in the heart of the most Andalusian area of Jerez and Seville. In fact, Jerez is a city with all the ingredients to immerse ourselves in the Spanish and Andalusian classics, such as flamenco, Sherry wines and the most delicious gastronomy.

Day 6: Jerez de la Frontera
Route: 36.1 km
Elevation: +291 m / -292 m
Accommodation: Villa Jerez

This morning we transfer from the hotel to the beautiful coastal town of Barbate where we begin biking through the natural park of La Breña y Marismas del Barbate surrounded by dramatic pine trees. The ride then follows the coastline north as we make our way back towards Jerez where, if we have time, we can visit one of the town’s most well-known sherry producers.

Tonight we will have our final celebratory dinner with a spectacular flamenco show over an elegant glass of local sherry. What bettter way to say goodbye to Andalusia!
