Arrival Day

Accomodation: NH Madrid Atocha

Arrival in Madrid is at leisure today. Check-in at the hotel is possible from 3:00 p.m. If you arrive before this time, you can leave your luggage at the reception. We will organize a welcome meeting at 6:00 p.m. at the hotel to explain more about the trip, adjust the bicycles and clarify any doubts you may have.

The capital is vibrant with a wide offer in culture, art and magnificent architecture. A walk through Madrid is not complete without a walk through the Retiro Park. The park is not only the lungs of Madrid, but also offers various cultural and leisure activities, such as the lake where you can take a boat trip and the Velázquez and crystal palaces, both used today as exhibition halls.

Today’s dinner is not included but we will recommend some places to share some tapas or try some culinary specialties in the center.

Day 2: Sunday – September 02nd: Salamanca
Route: 52.5 km +1336 m / -418 m

Accomodation: Parador de Salamanca

After breakfast, your guides will pick you up at 09:00 in the hotel for a transfer to Piedrahita (2hours). From there, we will start pedaling for our first route, short but demanding, about 50 kms with a progressive climb to La Covatilla. The landscape above is spectacular with views over the entire Castilian plateau.

From the VIP area we will see the arrival of the cyclists, a formidable way to celebrate this first route of this trip!

After the end of the stage, we will head to our next hotel by van (1hour). Tonight, we will have dinner together at the Parador. It will be a good time to get to know the rest of the group and the guides that will accompany you throughout this week of cycling in La Vuelta.

Day 3: Monday – September 03rd: Salamanca
Route: 62.1 km +410 m / -410 m

Accomodation: Parador de Salamanca

Today is a rest day for the professional cyclists – but it does not mean they will not ride! Teams never stop during La Vuelta and these days of break are actually dedicated to training; a unique opportunity for us to go pedaling with the Movistar team and attend the press conference.

In the afternoon, we will visit the city of Salamanca. Universal, magnificent, wise, and young: this city is one of the destinations of the interior that is worth knowing for many reasons. Its historic center has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

It is also a very famous city for its gastronomy and our guides will recommend the best places to enjoy typical tapas tonight.

Day 4: Tuesday – September 04th: Zamora
Route: 90.4 km +779 m / -769 m

After breakfast, we will make a quick transfer to the city of Ledezma. From here we start to ride, a long route of about 90kms but quite flat. We will pedal through extensive meadows with cattle, typical landscapes of the countryside, very close to the border with Portugal. We will pass through the huge reservoir of Almendro, the tallest and one of the largest in Spain.

After our route, we will take a seat in the VIP area with fresh drinks and a giant screen to see how the pros compete in the final sprint.

With a short transfer (30min), we will arrive at our next destination: the beautiful city of Zamora, which preserves in its old town an important legacy of Romanesque art, which has earned it the declaration of Historic-Artistic Ensemble. Located on the banks of the Douro River and on the route Vía de la Plata, its medieval importance has left its mark on walls, palaces and temples.

Tonight, we will have dinner together at the hotel.

In its interior, surrounded by legends, the largest glacial lake in Spain. You will be trapped by the irresistible magnetism that emerges from this spectacular set of crystal clear waters, immense mountains, bright green and an extraordinary environmental richness. There, we will see the cyclists passing and after lunch, we will go to Astorga. The city offers a rich medieval legacy, the result of its location at a crossroads: the Camino de Santiago and the Vía de la Plata route. Its walled precinct preserves churches, convents and hospitals, which move the traveler to the purest Jacobean tradition.
