A private biking tour on the amazing island of Mallorca

Level

mallorca carretera

Overview

Discover the beautiful island of Mallorca with its incredible beaches and the vegetation all around it while pedaling through it and getting to know the different places in the island. While cycling along the coast you will discover the wonderful roads passing through the different small villages and also taste the varied local gastronomy.

With superb biking routes, dramatic scenery and great weather on an idyllic island in the Mediterranean Sea, it is no wonder that Mallorca is referred to as a cyclist’s paradise. This is the place where pro-riders and amateur enthusiasts come to from all over Europe and the world to train during the winter and spring time and there is no doubt about its irresistible allure.

Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands, beating the other small islands including Ibiza and Menorca, with all their attractions: paradisiacal beaches, secret coves and sun all year round. But Mallorca has it all, sun, beach and of course mountains. It has the Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range, protected by UNESCO, and is located in the northwest of the island of Mallorca. There’s enough of each that you can have a day on the plain, or a day purely in the mountains yet, they are also arranged so close together that you can mix all three in one day if you wish. It is therefore no wonder that Mallorca is referred to as a cyclist’s paradise.

Apart from the coastal towns, the trip cannot end without visiting the capital: Palma and all its charms such as its cathedral, an imposing Gothic monument from the 13th century that dominates the horizon of the bay of Palma.

We can guarantee that you will not fail to be impressed by this idyllic Mediterranean isle.

Highlights

  • The beautiful, turquoise waters of the Mediterranean Sea
  • Smooth and well-maintained roads, ideal for road biking
  • Tackling the island’s most well-known and challenging climb, Sa Calobra
  • Cycling out to the unforgettable Cap de Formentor
  • Sampling the traditional Mallorcan Sobrasada pork sausage spread

Itinerary

Day 1: Port Pollença
Arrival day
Route: 36.6km/22.7 miles
Elevation: +267m/+877 ft
Accommodation: Hotel Hoposa Uyal

After meeting with your Bike Spain guides in Palma de Mallorca or in the airport, you will be transferred to a lovely vineyard in the centre of the island where you will be able to try the local wine which is really appreciated. The surrounding landscape is breathtaking.

You will have the opportunity to see some of these landscapes up close as you will be cycling around the winery to visit some interesting places nearby. The ride will be easy and the roads are quiet.

After the cycling you will be transferred to the Hotel Hoposa Uyal in Port Pollença. It is a really nice area where you will be around during three nights.

Day 2: Port Pollença – Cap Formentor
Route: 62.2km/38.6 miles
Elevation: +1291m/+4237 ft
Accommodation: Hotel Hoposa Uyal

This morning we make our way to the nearby town of Pollensa with it’s 365-step Calvari stairway which you can attempt to cimb before continuing by bike towards the Port of Pollensa. From here the route ascends on a stunning ride along the coast towards Cap Formentor offering incredible views with impressive cliffs dropping into the clear turquoise waters.

After taking time to soak in the views we make our way to the other side of the bay where we will have time to explore the fort of Alcudia before making our way by bike or van back to the hotel.

This evening is free to you to dine in the hotel restaurant and relax in its tranquil surroundings.

Day 3: Port Pollensa
Route: 92.8 km/57.7 miles
Elevation: +763m/+2503 ft
Accommodation: Hotel Hoposa Uyal

This morning we start the tour to the bay of Alcudia, a beautiful area that has a route along the coast that will not leave you indifferent.

Then we set off for the town of Petra. It is a small village in the interior of Mallorca belonging to the Pla region. This municipality is an interesting stop for those who want to escape from the most typical tourist places of the island and to know a little more of the most rural and traditional Mallorca. Besides being the birthplace of one of the most illustrious characters of the town, Fray Junipero Serra.

We continue the route to Sineu, Inca, Selva and Moscari, inland towns that we can not miss with all its cultural wealth.

We head back to the hotel where we can rest after a long day of cycling.

Day 4: Port Soller
Route: 46 km/28.6 miles
Elevation: +1085m/+3561 ft
Accommodation: Gran Hotel Soller

The pure climbing starts today. Sa Calobra and its fabulous snake-like shape road prove why Mallorca is a superlative cycling paradise. The ascents to Lluc, Puig Major and its lakes complete an epic stage.

Sheer limestone cliff faces reach down to the turquoise sea. Weaving through the craggy lunar landscape, a feat of engineering and a work of art: a looping grey squiggle of silver tarmac that entices cyclists from across the globe.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sa Calobra and its fabulous switchback road, one of the most beautiful routes on the whole island, prove why Mallorca is a superlative cycling paradise. Enjoy an adrenaline-fulled 10km of descent down to the crystalline waters of Sa Calobra beach. The road includes more than ten 180º turns, and even a full 360º turn known as the nus de sa corbata (the necktie knot!), in which the road passes underneath itself!

After this incredible route we will go to the hotel in Port Soller to get a rest in the 5 star Gran Soller Hotel.

Day 5: Port de Soller
Route: 42.7 km/26.5 miles
Elevation: +886m/+2098 ft

We start the day cycling to the village of Deià. It is a village located in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana between the municipalities of Valldemossa and Sóller. Be that as it may, Deià is a magical place wherever you look and it captures you with its atmosphere, nature and calm.

We continue our way to Valdemossa which will be our final stop before returning to the hotel.

We will have lunch in Port de Soller and free afternoon in the location of Port de Soller.

Day 6: Palma de Mallorca
Route: 64.7 km/40.2 miles
Elevation: +1358m/+4455 ft

In Palma you will enjoy a stay in one of Palma’s most luxurious lodgings with its stunning seafront pool.
